Did you know that oil is the single most important product countries trade today? Over 90% of the worlds transportation runs on petroleum. But there are other alternitives to gas guzzling vehicals. Take the MiniCat which runs completely on compressed air.

Americans keep wanting bigger and bigger cars and s.u.vs.You can also buy a hybrid car.

People predict that 2.6 trillion barrels of oil are left. In 1956 M.King Hubbert introduced the idea of a oil production peak.

Once half the oil runs out, oil will become harder to drill. They will have to use oil shale. Oil shale is expensive to turn into oil.

Today many countries rely on OPEC. That is the summary of A Crude Awakening.

In 1925 Mustafa Kemal (Kemal Ataturk) the all powerful president ( dictator) appeared wearing western clothing and a brimmed hat. He then ordered all Turkish men to stop wearing fezzes, and made a law forbidding wearing them. Many Turks were upset.Turks said if you gave up your fez you gave up being Muslim.New laws also changed the lives of women in Turkey. Before Kemal Ataturk women wore vails to hide their faces,Kemal made a law saying they could no longer be worn. He wanted to modernize the country of Turkey. He also thaught that women should be equal so girls then went to school and women took up jobs in buisness and government. He also gave women the right to vote. I am very grateful of Kemal Ataturk’s decision to make women equal. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be going to school, and my mom would not be able to work or vote. Did you know that he also moved the capitol from Istanbul to where it is now in Ankara. He even made a new alphabet and it was based on Roman alphabet and European languages. Well I must go to school now.

sincerely your pen pal,

Miss.V. asked if we had any questions and then told us that we would be having tacos for lunch and turkey with mashed potatoes for dinner. She explained what the different meal jobs were. There will be a server who gets the food, ascraper who scrapes off the food when everyone finnished eating, and a wiper who wipes off the table. Then we talked briefly about the rules and expectations. A few minutes later the bell rang.

Hey guys ! How are you? I am good. The pirates party was awesome!(argh) They showed Pirates in the Caribbean on the HUGE Ariel view t.v.Oh and snorkeling was a flop because first I got water in the snorkel because the waves were huge and I couldn’t blow the water out . Then I scared because I couldn’t breath. There were tons of fish of all different colors. But I got out of the water and back on the catamaran and waited with my mom for the rest of the snorkelers to finnish. When the rest of the people finnished the catamaran crew took us to a beach party. I spent a Half an hour collecting shells for everyone.( I had anough so that everyone in 6H could have 2 or 3 shells each.) I had them all on a picnic tabel when someone said we couldn’t bring them back. I went and asked a man from the islandIf I could bring home the shells and he said no because they are part of the marine park and the park is trying to rebuild the coral that is detereoratting.(see my artical on coral reefs.) So I had to put them all back( BUMMER!)(all my hard work for nothing!, grr,but the coral reefs are in danger ) Oh well. Maybe I can get some in Castaway Cay tomorrow. Gotta go. by.P.S today was a day at sea.

FRIDAY:

Hey guys I’m in Castaway Cay. Here are a few pics. of the beautiful island.

This is the boat and the Flying Dutchman from Pirates of the Carribbean 2 Deadmans Chest. It is the real thing.

I went swimming and snorkeling a lot today. I even swam and snorkeled with sting rays. It was so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We actually touched and fed the sting rays. They clip off the barbs at the end of the tail so they will not sting the swimmers. We learned that the sting rays only sting people in a defensive manuever. I saw many types of fish in bright, vibrant and beautiful colors. I will probably not be able to write on my blog tomorrow and Sunday because we will be flying home. I will see you on Monday with my tan.

They had a huge pool party called Mouse 2o - it was a blast. I got a air brush tatoo on my leg and so did my MOM!!!! The water is very clear and blue!

The waves were really big last night, the boat was rocking a lot.

Wednesday: -

Today, we will get off in Cozumel Mexico. We watched the ship dock and there were 7 other cruise liners surrounding us in port. Tonight is Pirate Night and I will be dressing up as a pirate with a pirate hat, hoop earrings and an eye patch. We will be watching pirates of the Carribean - Dead Man’s Chest on the huge, super huge outdoor monitor screen that is as big as the smokestack. I tried to find pictures in google, however, the changes from the “dry docking” of the Magic are not available. I will take a picture and I will bring it to class.

I will write about snorkeling when I come back from Cozumel. I hope you do not have too much snow.

P.S how was the chorus concert?

All Aboard Part II

I am on the Disney Cruise. It is really warm , my room is on deck 8, we have a room with a balcony. I love to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise and the moon rise at night.

Bon voyage!

We did not get leave the port on time because the Captain made a wise decision to delay the trip because 28 passengers were delayed due to the bad weather in the midwest and northeast. We actually left at 7:00 pm but we had the big party at 5:00 pm anyway.

We met our waiters at dinner, Plumen from Bulgaria and Marco from the Peru and Hemant from India. (HE MAN). We will arrive in Key West in the morning. I say a Dolphin in the water this morning. Later that day, we arrived in Key West and it was not very interesting except for the Butterfly Sanctuary and Museum. Key West has chickens running around loose everywhere. We went to the Southern most point of the United States and took pictures.
